A Greater Hope Ahead with More Hard Work and Your Donations

Proudly, the Awassa Children’s Project (“ACP”) has grown to support two entities in Awassa, the Awassa Children’s Center (“ACC”) and the Awassa Youth Campus (“AYC”). Through October 15, 2006, ACP has raised a total of approximately $34,000 towards our goal of $60,000. So far this year, we have been able to send a total of $66,028 in support of ACC and AYC, and their critical missions and programs.

Specifically, we have provided $36,728 in support of ACC, to provide food, clothing, education and shelter for our 60 wonderful children, and to support the Green Awassa Atelier. Through September, the biggest outlays of money by ACC included food for the children ($10,800*), children’s housing costs, including rent, utilities and furniture ($9,350*) and educational expenses, including tuition, uniforms, tutors, books and material and summer camp and uniforms ($4,030*).

In addition, we have provided $29,300 in support of AYC, to support programs ranging from the One Love HIV/AIDS Education Theater (“OLT”), to a growing community library, to children’s education classes (such as art, gymnastics and Aikido) and community outreach and health awareness programs. Through September, AYC’s largest outlays included AYC employee salaries ($8,970*), material and overhead costs associated with forming and operating AYC and all its programs (including material costs associated with OLT), including rent ($6,600*), and OLT expenses, excluding materials ($4,725*).

Finally, we have been able to minimize amounts spent on overhead and items other than directly supporting ACC and AYC and their missions and programs. Notably, we have only spent $2,850 on overhead (approximately 4% of our total expenditures).

While we are proud of our work so far this year, the ACC continues to grow, and help more children. In addition, the AYC’s impact on the youth of Awassa and Ethiopia has been astonishing, and it continues to expand as a vital place to help thousands of children. Thus, your help to support our children and community outreach programs is still desperately needed for the remainder of 2006 and beyond!
